A Practical Aptitude Test Preparation Plan

Prepare for timed aptitude tests with diagnostics, focused practice, review, and realistic pacing.

7 minute read

Aptitude preparation improves when practice tells you what to change. Repeating full tests without reviewing errors can reinforce the same weak decisions.

Start with a timed diagnostic

Measure accuracy, pace, and confidence across the expected topics. Record whether errors came from knowledge, interpretation, calculation, or time pressure.

Practise weak patterns deliberately

Use short focused sets before returning to full simulations. Learn the reasoning pattern, not only the answer to one question.

Develop a pacing policy

Decide when to continue, estimate, flag, or move on. Apply that policy during timed practice so it becomes familiar.

Review every attempt

Track not-attempted questions separately from incorrect answers. Both affect performance but require different improvements.

Key takeaways

  • Diagnose before choosing what to practise
  • Separate accuracy problems from pacing problems
  • Review decisions as well as answers
